High Altitude Sickness
To prevent soroche (altitude sickness), it is advisable to keep always on hand Coralina pills, to drink mate de coca (coca tea) upon arrival to the city, to avoid heavy meals and to keep sweets - such as lemon candy- and a bottle of water on hand.
Weather
The weather is characterized by two seasons: the dry season, from May to October, with Andean template semi-tropical weather, with temperatures up to 25° C during the day and up to 12° C during the night, clear skies with splendid starry nights; and the rainy season, from October to April, with continuing rainy days; during moon change it is possible to enjoy a few days of good weather.
Type of Clothing
Depending on the date scheduled for the city tour, it is advisable to bring light clothes, as it is very hot at midday, but in the early afternoon the temperature drops and you will need a jacket or a coat. If the tour is scheduled for the rainy season, waterproof jackets and umbrellas are a must.
Accessories
Sunglasses, sun block and comfortable tennis for the tours.
How to get to Huaraz
By land, 7 to 8 hour trip by bus: - Cruz del Sur, Móvil Tours, entre otras. By air, 30 minute trip by: - LC Busre airlines, with additional 20 minutes by car on paved road. By car, on paved road from Lima through Pativilca (from south to north, 400 Km distance), a Peruvian penetration road in good condition.
Taxi or Transfer Services
The city of Huaraz is rather quiet, and you will have no concerns regarding safety. Nevertheless, if you arrive to the city by land or air carrier, at the terminal entrance you will find people offering transfer, tour or accommodation services. To avoid any problems, we recommend you to have an authorized agency pick you up.
